Never Trust A Man with an Eton Education
Thinking about posh t**t's like Douglas Murray
Never trust a man with an Eton education. That’s the rule of thumb I apply to politicians, journalist, and anyone in a position of authority.
If you’re not from the UK, there’s a fair chance you won’t know what I’m talking about. Here’s a bit of background (largely Google researched to save myself time and, to be honest, it doesn’t need much research anyway):
Eton is a public school in Berkshire (a most splendid little county in the South-East of England), formed way back in 1440 by King Henry VI. It was originally opened as a charity school to provide “education” for 70 poor boys, but over the centuries it has become a popular institution for the higher classes. Taking on boys aged 13 – 18, examples of former pupils include Arthur “The Duke of Wellington” Wellesley, a string of politicians and Prime Minister’s, such as Boris “Bojo” Johnson and David “Pig Shagger” Cameron, and their “Royal Majesties” Harry “Duke of Sussex” Windsor, and William “Duke of Cambridge” Windsor. Fees are about 50 grand per annum, according to Wikipedia, though I’m sure there’ll be variations, as well as scholarships and bursaries. But we get the gist – anyone who can afford Eton is rich.

To be fair, not everyone who goes to Eton is necessarily a bastard. You have actors, such as Eddie Redmayne, and writers like Ian Fleming. Without knowing much about them other than their artistic works, I can’t really lump them in with the rest (though in the case of Fleming, do we consider James Bond harmless fun or propaganda?). Even George Orwell, I’m afraid, went to Eton. A champion of the Left, and someone whose work has had a profound effect on many Socialists, including me, it’s a bit disheartening to know that. But Orwell isn’t free from being problematic, which I will go into another time.
Either way, to paraphrase Douglas Murray’s comments on Muslims during last night’s Newsnight, it doesn’t matter if it is 1%, 5%, 10%, or 15% of people from within this institution, if they’re fanatics, you have a problem. Being an old Etonian himself, Murray falls into that category. And, if nothing else, Murray is a fanatic.
The first thing that gives Murray away as a bastard is his accent. This might sound harsh and unfair, and even baseless. I’m sure not everyone with that ridiculous accent is a bastard but see paraphrased quote above. This isn’t just an assumption made by British people, either. If we think of great, fictional villains, they all have a Murray-flavoured accent and mannerism that is shared by so many Public Schoolboys.
All in all, it’s fairly obvious to anyone unindoctrinated by hierarchy, authority, and the “culture wars” of our time – we know exactly what Murray is, where he’s coming from, and what his angle is. But there is nothing to fear here. Nothing more than a cartoon villain, a walking joke, a bumbling idiot, the stupid persons idea of a clever person. And though he tries to hide it, with simplistic notions of morality, and his nausea inducing takes on “Judeo-Christian” values, Murray is a quintessential, old-school, Mussolini-loving Prime of Miss Jean Brodie style, fascist. A shit Oswald Mosley, if you will (another public schoolboy, having gone to Winchester College), not quite brave enough to state emphatically what he is. In short, a posh twat.
In a kind of perverse way, I’d have more respect for Murray if he just came out and said it - “I’m a bit of a Fascist”. The fact that he hides behind Israel, something that has become a deeply fanatical perversion of Judaism, only makes him more repulsive. It’s not hard to imagine though, is it? Douglas Murray, sat around a lovely English garden on a large country estate, drinking tea with other members of the aristocracy, gushing over Mussolini, and whining about the Jews. If you want to see what a 21st century version looks like, just watch his obscene interview with John Anderson (whoever that is) on YouTube, where Murray, clearly a few brandies deep and in the middle of a sesh on the beak, drawls on about the uninvited, and all that kind of shit. It is easily translatable, and clearly an echo of that old-school upper-class British fascism. Just substitute the word “Jews” for “Muslims” and you’ll get it.
Of course, Murray will claim this to be nonsense. “You know very well,” he’d say, like some rich kids’ angry grandmother, “that Islam is a death cult.” This, however, was something I touched on in my first review of Ash Sarkar’s Minority Rule. For Murray and his ilk, the exploitation of the Left’s deflections on Islamic terrorism (such as the Left’s pointing to socio-economic factors or colonisation as being contributors to the phenomena), has been hugely successful. You could say that it’s similar to being given a penalty kick with no goalkeeper.
The fact that radical Islam is antithetical to any kind of left-wing politics, that it is ultra-conservative, even fascist, doesn’t matter. Neither does the fact that, being one of the three Abrahamic faiths, Islam is an extension of Judaism and Christianity. The dogma of Zionism, Netanyahu’s reference to Amalek, the deliberate bombing of children, none of that matters either. For a whole host of reasons, Muslim people have become the primary target of 21st century Fascists, creating a somewhat paradoxical battle between the extremists of the Middle East and the West, one that is more Crusades than Left vs Right. On the one side, we have the lunatics of the Bible Belt, and the lunatics of Zionism, and on the other the lunatics of radical Islam – try as you might, you won’t find much difference.
“But Muslims are terrorists!” you cry. “Muslims bomb, and shoot, and stab us!”
Islamic terrorism is undeniably a fact, and a huge problem, but don’t con yourself into thinking that kind of violence is exclusive to the fanatics of Islam. We don’t even need to discuss Zionism. But Christianity? Give those Bible Belters a chance, and you’ll soon find out. Or for a less hypothetical argument, look at out history. Look at the treatment of people around the world by actors “spreading the word”. Or just read the Old Testament. If we were to live by Biblical Law, in a literal sense, you’d have the Christian Republic of Britain and a tyranny comparable to any Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan.
The fact of Saudi Arabia’s, Afghanistan’s, or Israel’s existence is, for the context of this topic, neither here nor there. The arguments that Murray makes about Western, “Judeo-Christian” values are. These arguments are pure fallacy, with the Age of Enlightenment having made more contribution to the development of modern Europe (I include America, Canada, Australia, and Israel as being European by the way). Not like modern Europe is without sin. As for Christian Europe, that was defined by decapitations, heads on spikes, hangings, witch trials, and inquisitions. Oh, and if you were especially bad, a good, old-fashioned posthumous execution (see Oliver Cromwell)!
If by “Judeo-Christian” we mean tolerance, acceptance, forgiveness, and all that stuff, then show me how, and where, European society is demonstrative of that. Is modern Europe more accepting than the Middle East? Of course it is. But what does that prove? Any person who lives by perceived “Judeo-Christian” values should only look to Jesus, right? The world’s first communist!
Having said all that earlier stuff about Eton, you can’t come out of an institution such as that without some kind of basic knowledge (though that assumption is put under scrutiny by the existence of Bojo). Murray will know all about The Enlightenment. I dare say he’ll know a lot more than I do. Same goes for English history. There really only leaves two options – either Murray does disprove the assumption, and is in fact thick as mince, or he is a genuine fanatic and propagandist. It is the kind of hypocrisy (and there is so much more) that has been pointed to in regard to Judeo-Christianity, that, for lack of a better word, outs Murray as a bad actor. What level of bad that is, I’ve obviously got no way of knowing. But from what I see and read; I think he’s fucking evil.
A final note on Murray, for now, is the publication of his new book, On Democracies and Death Cults (a study of Israel’s Zionist-governed sham of a democracy, perhaps?). This was mentioned by one of his many publicists, Sky News Australia, who shared a post made by the clown in the Shite House, in which Murray was referred to as a “friend”. Nothing raises a red flag more than the endorsement of a US President, or any Head of State, to be fair. And this is the issue, and the reason for me venting out this article. This is what the Left is up against. An established order that has convinced the working classes that they are anti-establishment. Imagine if you will, a society so crazy that an old Etonian and a nepo baby property tycoon are seen as being anti-establishment!
Of course, the major red flag that Murray raises is his position as Chief Propagandist for Israel’s media outlets in the West. As mentioned, Murray’s interest in Israel is interlinked with an Islamophobic agenda back in the UK. It is that Islamophobia that has driven the European Far-Right, and the fanatics of Zionism, into each other’s arms. As any reasonable person knows, the actions of both Hamas and the IDF are barbaric. To take a side is to commit to one form of fanatism over another. With Hamas, however, we see a monster of Israel’s own making. Basically, if you treat people in monstrous ways, you create monsters.
The “Pro-Hamas” protestors Murray points to, in his wild and hysterical manner, are just normal people, able to feel basic compassion, who see no justification for Israel’s decades-long assault on the Palestinian people, and the insane level of retribution dished out post-7th October.
My first reaction that morning, and of many other people, was that Israel would finally wipe the Palestinians off the map, or would die trying. And Hamas knew this, which makes the actions of Israel all the more unforgiveable. I genuinely believe the two sides are now in a battle for existence, with Israel gleefully taking up Hamas’ invitation, that only one side can win. Surely, there can’t be any two-state solution now. Again, Murray knows this, hence his absurd campaign to portray Israel as a “liberal democracy”, and a defender of Western civilisation (categorised by Murray, of course, simply as civilisation). If Murray were to be believed, an Israeli defeat would result in Europe being flooded with Islamists, hacking at the throats of all blonde-haired, blue-eyed infidels.
What makes Murray so popular, what broadens his appeal beyond simple-minded idiots and gets him a spot on BBC Newsnight (as big a political platform as you can get in the UK), other than that self-important poshness that some “common” people are so susceptible to, is the hard fact that there is a semblance of truth that Murray have masterfully exploited. Murray’s agendas are not difficult to work out, they’re not hidden – he is anti-multiculturalism, Islamophobic, nationalistic, elitist, and pro-capital, all of which can be disguised as a big C Conservative. He simply wants his country back. He pines for an old England. But that England, something I talk about in more detail in an upcoming podcast on sense of place.
Where Murray has shown himself to be beyond Conservatism, a politics that doesn’t automatically make someone a bad person (everything has nuance), is in the defence of Israel, one so fanatical as to be seen as an insatiable bloodlust, and shameless dishonesty. Pointing to IDF guided tours of Gaza as “first-hand” accounts is equally as absurd as his claim of Israel being a liberal democracy. As an Israeli asset, Murray has blood on his hands. Being a Zionist, he is on the opposite side of the same coin to Hamas. Yes, that’s right. There is no distinction between Hamas and the IDF. There is no distinction between Zionism and Islamic extremism. And Murray has chosen his side.
Absolutely. What really gets to me is when people say Israel had no other option after 7th October but to respond in the way they have. It's insane. I don't know how any reasonable person can come to such a conclusion. As for Murray, I think I refer to him as an Israeli asset in the article (which is a bit of a tangent tbh, but such is my hatred for the man) which I have no actual evidence to back that up. But what other possibility is there? The guy has exclusive access to the "war" (genocide), going on guided IDF tours that he refers to as 1st hand accounts of events, and receiving ceremonial honours from the Israeli President. I am right in thinking that no journalists are allowed in Gaza, right? All except Murray. Backed up by a Trump endorsement now as well haha!
Sorry that was longer than I intended. He's my public enemy number one at the moment haha.
What a terrible person. I hate-read his The Madness of Crowds a few years ago. Thoroughly unimpressed. Thought he was just an idiot. Didn’t realize he’s a straight up fascist.
